Gratitude.....such an easy thing to do and yet such an easy thing to forget to do.

However, many a potential misundersanding and mis-steps have been avoided when I simply remember to stop and be thankful for whatever lesson the universe has chosen for me learn. (and it seems of late that the Universe has an unlmited supply of lessons it wishes to send me!)

The main lesson so far---- when I'm grateful, I cannot be angry...or hurt...or sad....or anxious.....or lonely.....or afraid......or confused......or.....anything but grateful. Just as darkness canot exist in the presence of light, fear cannot co-exist with gratitude.

Amazing isn't it..... the capabilities of that ONE word....the ills that one word can eliminate!

As long as I remember to be grateful I can look only forward to a life where learning very valuable lessons is seen as an adventure.

          ...The fuel that keeps me moving.....hopefully forward. I have discovered that I am requiring an increasing supply of inspiration to keep me moving forward....

And don't tell me it's 'age'....I REFUSE to get old!!! :-)

And what inspires me? Enlightening conversations with people who 'think' like I do. A design project for a friend or business. Being able to spend more time here during the past couple of days reading and catching up on others blogs and emails. Learning how to do something new. Meeting new people. Making new friends here at Zaadz. Knowing that I have done something to improve the quality of life for another. Listening to beautiful music. Listening to other's stories. Listening to and being in nature. Being able to connect-the-dots and look back and see how events of yesterday so perfectly laid the foundation for events of today....remembering that everything happens for a reason and happens exactly as it should...

The following Words of Wisdom I received in an email the other day not only served as a source of continued inspiration...but were a timely reminder of HOW and WHY I become inspired to anything in the first place.

     "Until one is committed, there is hesitancy...the chance to draw back...always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative and creation, there is one elementary truth - the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment that one definitely commits oneself then providence moves too."

                         "Whatever You Can Do....Begin It.

                                          Boldness Has Genius, Power and Magic In It."

                                                                            "Begin It Now"

                                                                                                                   ~~~Goethe~~~
               To all who stop by....Listen to your Heart...Follow your Dreams....Live in the               NOW....and Be Inspired!
    These words are used to define the word Desideratum, the singular form of the word Desiderata.   Other words such as essential, necessary, required.... have essentially the same meaning, but with much less passion.    For those of you unfamiliar with this particular work, Desiderata also the title of a poem that is generally believed to have been written in 1927 by Max Ehrmann.
    I've posted this poem before....and do so each time I see or hear these written words.  It is my way of "listening to the universe", and the poem is a nice reminder of how to achieve happiness - if happiness is what is truly desired.   My reminder today came from this source, a truly inspiring video of the words put to music:
                            http://www.inspiringthots.net/movie/desiderata.php
                                               ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

                                                                      DESIDERATA

        Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
        and remember what peace there may be in silence.
        As far as possible without surrender
        be on good terms with all persons.
        Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
        and listen to others.
        even the dull and the ignorant;
        they too have their story.

        Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
        they are vexations to the spirit.
        If you compare yourself with others,
        you become vain and bitter;
        for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
        Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

        Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
        it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
        Exercise caution in your business affairs;
        for the world is full of trickery.
        But let this not not blind you to what virtue there is;
        many persons strive for high ideals;
        and everywhere life is full of heroism.

        Be yourself.
        Especially, do not feign affection.
       Neither be cynical about love;
        for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
        it is as perennial as the grass.

        Take kindly the counsel of the years,
        gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
        Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
        But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
        Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
        Beyond a wholesome discipline,
        be gentle with yourself.

        You are a child of the universe,
        no less than the trees and the stars;
        you have a right to be here.
        And whether or not it is clear to you,
        no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

        Therefore, be at peace with God,
        whatever you conceive him to be,
        and whatever your labors and aspirations,
        in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

        With all it's sham, drudgery and broken dreams,
        it is a beautiful world.
        Be cheerful.
        Strive to be happy.

It has been quite a while - too long actually, since I've written anything on the subject of Gratitude.

I woke up this morning with the strongest sense of peace I've felt in a long while. As I lay there trying to decide if I was in fact awake and alive my thoughts automatically shifted to an almost overwhelming sense of gratitude. It's not typical for me to feel anything, much less gratitude, after only 4 hours of sleep! But today was different....especially after the week I've had, it would be much easier to think about what all I''m NOT grateful for....like the fatigue after working almost 60 hours, having finals in Photoshop class....having NO love life and being alone on Valentine's....

Instead my shifted to the memory of a conversation with my best friend this week where we talked about choices - what we do and how we feel and, more importantly, how we respond to any situation is a choice we make. And if what we attract in our lives is the result of our thoughts, intention is the bridge that connects our emotion with possibility. During this conversation I was reminded how an 'attitude of gratitude', so profoundly affects our thoughts which inevitably lead us to choices that are beneficial not only to ourselves, but to all we come in contact with. As I write this It occurs to me that it is this particular set of lenses that I have choosen to look through that shifts my focus from myself to the world....and the reason I am grateful what I have as well as what I don't have!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Spectrum of Intentions
As long as I am breathing, I will always be alive;
As long as I am alive, I will always be evolving;
As long as I am evolving, I will always be changing;
As long as I am changing, I will always be conscious;
As long as I am conscious, I will always be deliberate;
As long as I am deliberate, I will always be intentional;
As long as I am intentional, I will always be focused;
As long as I am focused, I will always be consistent;
As long as I am consistent, I will always be certain......
    Living in the hills and out in the sticks as I do has disadvantages, but add a little snow and ice....and you have a perfect recipe for an iron-clad excuse to NOT drive (or in my case, slide) into work.
    Donning my favorite outfit - polar fleece and boots -  off I went, camera in hand, making tracks in the snow....
   I was mainly in search of cute little critters....however, it seems they had better sense than to be out in the cold - even my camera doesn't like temps below freezing.  The image above is taken from a  tree in my front yard....a local hang-out for squirrels and woodpeckers.    Although NOT today!  But....there is good news:  I have Photoshop!  And plenty of free time on my hands to create the image I would have liked to see.....as another 1'-3' of snow begins to fall....
I'm NOT a shopper - I'm not one to buy things unless I (or someone else) really, really wants or needs them.
And it took me a while to convince myself that buying a drawing tablet would be something I could use or want or need....oh how uninformed and naive I was!
This little jewel is GREAT!  So great that, I can actually say that Photoshop and I may, in fact, be able to peacefully co-exist.....maybe!
And oh what a tumultuous love - hate relationship this has been!  When I first opened Photoshop, it was love at first sight...I was completely swept of my feet!  As a future designer and wanting to capture and visualize my creative ideas on such a creative medium, I felt as though I had indeed found Heaven on earth!  But, as I got to know PS better, it's dark side (it's very high learning curve) surfaced and love quickly turned to hate.  Naturally, my initial reaction was to call it names as I perceived it be selfish and unwilling to share it's technology with me.  And....I'm guessing it thought I was...uh...slow. ;-)   At those times I suppose it felt sorry for me and would allow me to complete a simple project.  As a result I would be so elated!   Hate was once again replaced with love.  Even if only temporary, it was enough to keep me interested.   I began to anticipate the next task and would delve into it full of enthusiasm and optimism.....only to be followed by the pangs of betrayal while trying to learn a new color concept or layering technique.
Those of you that have had to put up with my lamenting about difficult PS is to learn...thank you kindly for your patience.....I now have a whole new attitude!  Photoshop is not the one with the problem.  It has a multidimensional personality, a multitude of skills and is capable of performing tasks that a one-dimensional mind (like mine), is not even able to fathom.   It's not IT'S fault! :-)  I just need to get out more!!!
So rather than continue fighting with it or dumping it, I've decided to seek outside professional help.  This is where the drawing tablet comes in.  What it offers is the best of both worlds.  I can draw and be creative while it (Photoshop) does what it likes to do -  rasterizing pixels and channeling layers.
A  win-win situation!
        Quite possibly the sanest thought I've had this week is to add this book to my lengthy wish list at Amazon.com.
        From what part within the deep recesses of MY mind did I get the idea that Adobe Photoshop and I could peacefully co-exist.  The reader's Digest Condensed version of, 'My Life With PS" is this:  It's flat doing me in!!!  Why did I agree to take this class now?  What deep, enlightening lesson is the universe trying to convey to me now?
        When discussing this course with my academic advisor I was informed that it has a 'high learning curve'....but not to worry....I'll learn it quickly.  She must have thought she was  talking to my twin? - or my clone? - for anyone who really knows me, also knows that I DON'T DO COMPUTERS.  Consequently, I should stay far, far away from anything with a high learning curve - what a term!
       Anything with a high learning curve should be reserved for other people - I'm not  like other people...not even close!  What I'm experiencing with this Photoshop class is equivalent to walking up Machu Picchu - backward and blindfolded!  If I should reach the top, what I will have found will not be the "Lost Land of the Incas', but rather the 'Lost Land of the Incompetent Photoshop Wanna Be's'.
        So, what was I thinking?  Being the eternal optimist, I really and truly thought that if anyone else on this planet could do this, then so could I!
        What am I thinking now?  I'm still optimistic, but guarded.   I've corresponded quite a bit with my instructor - these class assignments appear more relevant to graphic design majors - of which I am NOT!!!  If she is able to relate any of this to furniture placement, architecture and color schemes, then I'll be willing to go head and play along.
        My over riding thought?  My hat is SO off to ALL  who read this and are proficient with any aspect of Photoshop.  Do each of you have any idea what an accomplishment  you have achieved!!!
   With deep admiration I humbly bow to each of you.  And hope join all you over achievers in the near future!
    School is out!  For almost three weeks I'll have a bit more freedom to blog, read and respond to blogs and surf a few of my favorite web sites that I had been neglecting.
    One of my favorites - http://www.ted.com, was one of the first places I visited today.  For those unfamiliar with TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) this is a most amazing site - where some of, if not THE most creative and innovative minds gather and share their ideas and concepts - ideas and concepts designed to improve the world around us.
    Being in the educational mode, I was drawn to this particular speaker, Richard Baraniuk, a Rice University professor who has a GIANT vision - to create a FREE, on-line global educational system!  After hearing his 15 minute or so presentation, it became clear that this idea is not only possible, but will likely be THE solution to ineffective traditional class room teaching.
    To watch his presentation, go here: http://www.ted.com/tedtalks/tedtalksplayer.cfm?key=r_baraniuk
    During the past 2 1/2  months I've been awestruck at the convenience and availablity of just being able to receive an online education alone.  This guy has taken that technology and has envisioned a simple ( c= y2 -wx X m/y2......or some such mathmatical equation!)  to kick it up a notch!
You gotta see this!
Above image is entitled, "The Meandering River of Dreams"
    I woke up this morning with this thought - spoken from one (from the anonymous pool of unknown entities that are always present in my dream) -"Your thoughts will determine what you have and what you do with your life".
Not a particularly profound statement - I have it plastered on my profile page, and it is interwoven through various blogs I've posted in the past.  It is the theme of almost half of my reading library, I have downloaded an excellent e-book, The Master Key, and  I've watched the movie,  What is the Secret........twice!
So, no...it was not so much the words, but the blaring intensity in which they were spoken... enough to jar me awake, I tell ya!  Now I'm just lying there...this sentence playing over and over in my mind.  Next, I'm thinking, 'Well yes - I know this already!'  I'm taking this as a sign that I really, really need to return to that mind set.  Lip service is longer enough...I have to begin right here, right now, putting that concept into action.   I know how important my thoughts are, and lately I've not given positive thoughts the proper attention they deserve...after all, it is my thoughts and ONLY my thoughts that determine the quality of my life.
I'm also trying to pay more attention to my dreams.   Dreams fascinate me.   I don't fully understand them...I want to know their purpose.  Why do we have dreams when we sleep?  What can I do to remember them?   I've received advice to have a pen and paper handy and write down my dream as soon as I wake up.  Tried that...can't do it.  When I first awaken, it takes the better part of an hour for me to decide if I'm dead or alive!  By the time I've determined that I will NOT be writing my obituary, I'm no longer in the frame of mind to write anything, much less, anything about any dream.
Then...I'm off thinking in terms of dream interpretation.  I've read a couple of books, visited a few websites...each time I either find some generic table of 'the' interpretation of a certain dream symbol...or my favorite,'...only you can determine the meaning of a particular dream or dream symbol.'   So why are they writing this advice?  And to whom?  Aghh!!!
In any event...I do feel a bit more at ease with my latest dream event now that I have articulated it here.  Maybe now I can focus on the deeper issues of this my other dreams and not so much on the why or walking around thinking, 'huh?'
For now, I will settle with following interpretation of all my dreams:  Dreams vs. Dreaming....now is the time to learn the difference.
Reflections:  When The Teacher Becomes The Student
    In the world of duality,  achieving a state of non-duality has been a challenge for me.  I read, I listen, I contemplate, reflect and meditate.  Then suddenly, without warning, a light turns on.   I look up and see a most profound non-duality...an action through non-action experience has taken place....the teacher has become the student - the student has become the teacher.
    Returning to school - to a virtual classroom - was only the beginning.
    In the process of learning how to learn, I have learned how to feel.  This was quite unexpected as I had preconceived ideas of a classroom where only tangible facts and figures would be presented.  And yes, I am studying to become an interior designer, but this program wants it's students to know who they are!  Of all things!
    Oh,  the Universe!  It has it's ways of making one 'do' what needs to be done.  And getting in touch with my feelings, especially now,  was the last thing on earth I wanted to do.  The Universe, instead,  saw it as something I needed to do.....a need to be met,  needfully....or something like that.
    Long story short, I am learning to trust myself and to trust others.  I am learning how to LISTEN.  I thought I was so good at it before.  Now I know, before I was only barely listening...and to think of all that I have missed...aghhh!
    I better understand my need to be alone and the purpose it has served.  I'm learning to better trust my instincts.  My inner voice and outer omens are the means the Universe uses to communicate with me.  My purpose is to not only listen, but to ACT on what I'm being told.  This how I position myself to teach others.  I was feeling as though I had lost my ability to teach, until earlier today, I placed myself in the student's desk and LISTENED!  WOW!
    I have also learned that I have two very distinct and dominant needs: 1) To be challenged, and 2) To have a creative outlet.  Without these, I am little more than a wandering robot.  In fact, it was not until these expressions resurfaced that I recognized their significance.
End of Chapter 1.
A CAPITAL "G"
It has been awhile since my last blog entry, and as much as I love humor,  I feel the need instead to try to describe one of the most dominant emotions I am feeling right now...... Gratitude.
I am Grateful that the Universe has a plan for me.
I am grateful that found the ability work through anger and SEE and HEAR the Universe speak to me.
I am Grateful for the courage to follow this voice, for it has and continues to,  lead me down the path of fulfilled dreams and desires.
"To look is one thing.
  To see what you look at is another.
  To understand what you see is a third.
  To learn from what you understand is still something else.
  But to act on what you learn is all that really matters!"
                                                             ~~~Native American Wisdom~~~

SPIRIT RULES

The soul is in charge of our lives! Our souls have been running the show from behind the scenes since the beginning of time. And you can easily tap into your soul's point of view and find out what your soul has been up to since the moment you were born.
The most direct route the soul takes to connect with us is by speaking with a silent inner voice or urging. It tries to reach us through intuition. But, often we don't, or can't, receive this direct inner communication. Spirit then resorts to using our outer world to get our attention to deliver its guidance. The ever-inventive soul tries to get through to us by way of noticeable, distinctive, strategically-timed signs in the form of events in our daily life.

THE DECK IS STACKED IN OUR FAVOR

There is a science, as well as an art, to reading signs and signals. Our beliefs and intentions go out from us and have an impact not only on other people, but also on what happens to us.
Signs and synchronicity are pure physics. All outer signs are a mirror reflection of our inner consciousness. The quantum mechanics of meaningful coincidences is constantly working for us. Our magnetic field of energy is always attracting exactly what we need to create our heart's desires. We're destined to enjoy an abundant life-and the Universe is designed to help us find it.

The past couple of days that I have spent away from the computer has given me a chance to re-learn stillness, quietness, to learn how to give and to receive....to EXPERIENCE flow....

For all these things...and so much more....I am grateful beyond description.

Events of this past week have been nothing short of amazing. 'To thine own self be true"...I've always had great respect for those words and when events occur that affirm that it is only by being 'true to thine own self' that that you are able to appreciate what follows.

I've been on this path, searching for enlightenment, happiness, the meaning of life for quite a while. I've read many, many books, but after a while, the words all begin to sound the same. I have found others here at Zaadz that I really 'connect' with, those that have shone a light on my path. I feel a sense of peace knowing I can communicate so freely what I think and feel...I even begin to buy into the idea that I may actually know a thing or two about healing another....that I have useful advice to give....

AND THEN.....

I receive an email from Darina...and with it she informs the rest of us that we here at Zaadz are most fortunate to have our own Swami....yes, someone way more enlightened than I will ever be! So much so that he has his own pod and gives out free advice...Tips on Enlightenment....yes sir, this guy has this enlightenment thing down! You could say he is 'all over it!'

For those who might read this and have not visited the Joy Solutions pod, I am going to post this link: http://pods.zaadz.com/joy/discussions/view/50129

I've not asked permission from E.Buzz to post this link in my blog...we aren't real 'friends'...he doesn't know I exist, but I think everyone needs to know he does!

But I will go ahead and thank Erik and Darina....you two DO bring such JOY and ENLIGHTENMENT! Keep up the good work!!!

It is without a doubt the absolute funniest thing I've heard in a while.

For anyone who just want to ROFL.....THIS will do it!

To finish the equation, Gratitude + Enlightenment+ Hearing (like 5 minutes ago!) the Laughter of a loved one = Life IS Good!

I ran across these the other day....they are old, but then so am I, and I'm still funny... So here goes:

1. It's always darkest before dawn. So if you're going to steal your neighbors paper, that's the time to do it.

2. Sex is like air. It's not important unless you aren't getting any.

3. Don't be irreplaceable. If you can't be replaced, you can't be promoted.

4. No one is listening..... until you fart.

5. Always remember you are unique. Just like everyone else.

6. Never test the depth of water with both feet.

7. Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you do criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

8. Some days you are the bug. Some days you are the windshield.

9. Duct tape is like the Force. It has a light side and a dark side, and it holds the universe together.

10. We are born naked, wet and hungry and get slapped on our ass....then things get worse.

This guy was climbing a tree when suddenly he slipped, then grabbed a branch and was hanging there. After an hour or so had passed he felt himself getting exhausted and looked up to the heavens and cried out: "God, help me, please, help me."

  All of a sudden the clouds parted and a voice boomed out from on high. "Let Go!" said the voice.

  The guy paused and looked up at heaven once more, and then said, "Is there anyone else up there?"

That is the question I keep asking of me.

In the past the matter of exercising was never a question...I did it because I wanted to and It made me feel good. But here lately, I have no idea what has come over me....I can find SO many reasons not to workout, and I know one day, unless I get a heaping dose of inspiration....well.....let's just hope I find some inspiration from somewhere!

And speaking of sources of inspiration, I'm not terribly picky... Steven Segal or Antonio Bandaras will do just fine!

The following list of TOP 10 REASONS contains a few items that have served me well in my daily decision making process:

                                                To Exercise Or Not To Exercise

1. It is well documented that for every mile you jog, you add one minute to your life. This enables you, at age 85, to spend an additional 5 months in a nursing home at $5,000 per month.

2. My grandmother started walking 5 miles a day when she was 60. She is now 70 and we don't know where she is.

3. The only reason I would take up jogging is so that I could hear heavy breathing again.

4. I joined a health club last year, spent about $400. Haven't lost a pound. Apparently you have to show up.

5. I have to exercise early in the morning before my brain figures out what I'm doing.

6. Don't exercise at all. If God meant for us to touch our toes, he would have put them further up on our body.

7. I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me.

8. The advantage of exercising every day is that you die healthier.

9. If you are going to try cross country skiing, start with a small country.

10. And last, but not least, I don't jog - it makes the ice jump right out of my glass.

  A little comic relief here while I await CNN's countdown to their 'Story of....the Millenium?' "In the Footsteps of Bin Laden", or is it 'Know Your Enemy', or....whatever.....

Anyway....On with the good stuff:

                                    Why Did The Chicken Cross The Road?

BILL CLINTON : I did not cross the road with THAT chicken! What do you mean by 'chicken?' Could you define 'chicken', please?

GEORGE W. BUSH : I don't think I should have to answer that question, it happened back in my drinking days.

RALPH NADER : I don't know why, but I bet it had something to do with escaping corporate control.

JOHN McCAIN : If there was finance reform, the chicken never would have been forced to cross the road.

SADDAM HUSSEIN : It was an unprovoked act of rebellion and we were completely justified threatening the use of WMD's to force the chicken to the other side.

NRA : It is our constitutional right to shoot chickens crossing the road.

CAPTAIN JAMES T. KIRK : To boldly go where no chicken has gone before.

DR. SEUSS : Did the chicken cross the road? Did it cross it with a toad?
                         Yes! The chicken crossed the road. But why it crossed, I've not been told.

BILL GATES : I have just released echicken 2006, which will not only cross roads, but will lay e-eggs, it will have the memory of an e-lephant, and cross to the other side of the road faster then any other echicken on the market.

JERRY FALWELL : Because the chicken was gay! Isn't it obvious? Can't you people see the plain truth in front of your faces? The chicken was going to the 'other side'. That is why 'they' call it the 'other' side. Yes, my friends, that chicken is gay. And if you let it cross the road, then you too will become gay. That is why we need the freedom to keep chickens from living around the rest of us.

THE BIBLE : And then God said unto the chickens, 'Thou shalt cross the road.' And the chicken crossed the road, and there was much rejoicing.

COLONEL SANDERS : I missed one?

then this will be one less thing for me to wish I had not put off until...? and, #3)- I FINALLY learned how to upload/download/whatever -you-call-it images onto my blog...and well....felt the need to brag before you-know-what (?) happens, and no one would be around to witness my miraculous new skill!!!

Or I should say, 'new found' skill...the miracle will be if I remember how to duplicate this miraculous feat!

   The radical truth is that you are not a human being in a physical world.

   The radical truth is that you are utterly free without any boundary or limitation whatsoever.

   You are unborn and there is no death.

   The radical truth is that nothing has ever been created.

   Prior to existence or nonexistence
                                                                                   I  AM

     "All the forms in which God id worshipped are products of the human imagination. The proper way to experience God is to feel with all your inner being that you are the Divine itself. That experience will make you feel the presence of the Divine in all beings and in all things. With that experience there will be no room for hatred towards anyone. Such a one will not do evil deeds."
